How to Get a Green Card

I posted back all of the forms from the NL today… SO SCARY!

Naturally, I was rather nervous about completing the six pages of forms which had to be sent back to the KCC as soon as possible.

I made two photo copies of each form and completed a practice run in pencil with a copied version.

I had to wait a few days for my Mum to post my existing Social Security Card from a previous working holiday in the US (I was there in 98/99 on a J1 visa working at a ski resort in Colorado). There was also a public holiday on Wednesday the 25th April so it didn’t arrive until yesterday.

I took another photocopy of my completed forms and sealed them all into an International Express post envelope. Anxiety levels were high as I drove around to the Express Post box.

My envelope contained the following items, stuck together with a paper clip, in order from top to bottom:

• One standard US passport size photograph
• Barcode Coversheet
• DS 230 Part I & Part II
• DSP-122

All of my paperwork regarding the DV Lottery, new US & Aust passport photos, old and new Passports, my existing Social Security card, and any other relevant info are now stored together in a file on my desk.

I’m assuming if I filled in the form correctly, supplied the appropriate photograph and mailed it back within a week of receiving the NL - I should be hearing back from the KCC sometime in early 2008 about the 2nd package and interview. I’m going to busy myself with researching and posting anything of interest relating to the Green Card Lottery on this blog.

There wasn’t anything in my forms which would justify them -not- interviewing me…
