The Story of a DV Lottery Winner

How to Get a Green Card

DV Lottery Notification Letter

April 22nd, 2007 . by admin

I realise now that in my previous post, despite detailing the minutiae of my internal monologue, I neglected to detail the actual CONTENTS of the envelope from the Kentucky Consular Center.

After doing some brief Google Searching, I’ve found some fantastic forums and have picked up on the ‘lingo’ used by people going through this Green Card Lottery process.

So I’ll share it here with you…

The Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) envelope containing the Notification Letter (NL) was sent on April 18, 2007 and stamped with red ink saying “PP SWEDEN” in the top right hand corner. Apparently these letters are sent out via the Swedish postal service!?

Items inside the KCC envelope:

Notification Letter
My winning DV Lottery Notification Letter (NL) is dated March 13th, 2007.

Case Number
My Case Number (CN) is 2008OC000006XX.
2008 = the year in which I will be eligible for a visa
OC = I am from Australia and live within the ‘Oceania’ region
000006XX = my CN is in the low 600’s which is apparently a good thing

The digits in the CN are very important and, according to seasoned applications from a great discussion forum, if I am deemed a suitable applicant, I should be scheduled for an interview around Jan/Feb/March 2008.

KCC Address Label
There is a label pre-printed with the KCC address that is to be used on whichever envelope you choose when sending back your forms.

Barcode Coversheet
This sheet is to be copied and sent back to the KCC to make life easier for the people/machines who process our forms.

DS 230 Part I and Part II
These are double-sided forms which must be completed and sent back to the KCC in order to apply for a US visa.

DSP-122
This is a special supplement form for visa applicants who are Green Card Lottery winners and must be included when returning the DS 230 Part I and Part II forms.

Information Document
This is a multi-page document containing all of the information relevant to the current stage in the DV Lottery process. It details how the process works and what we need to be prepared to do in this initial round. There are also detailed instructions on the US passport sized photograph we need to return with the initial forms to the KCC.

Where To From Here?
This is also a multi-page document detailing the steps we need to take to prepare for our interview (if granted). It specifically states that we should not complete any of the major steps (e.g. a police check) until we have confirmation of an interview.
